Ride-hailing app taxis cannot enter the airport premises

When you arrive and try to arrange a taxi through a ride-hailing app, the following situation may occur:
The app will detect your GPS location, and if you are arriving on an international flight, it will likely guide you to Exit 2 or Exit 7 as the pick-up point.
However, after you request the ride, the driver may send you a message via chat (or sometimes call) saying:
“Please come outside the airport.”
This is because taxis from ride-hailing apps are not allowed to enter the airport premises.

As a result, you will need to walk outside the airport with your luggage. This walk can take at least 10 minutes.
Another issue is “Where exactly do you meet the driver outside the airport?”
There is no fixed meeting point, and it depends entirely on the driver.

While you can track the driver’s location in the app, you should note that the driver may not be able to locate you.
As explained in other sections, many Thai drivers are not used to reading maps, so even if you share your location, they may not understand it.

Due to these local circumstances, simply meeting a ride-hailing app driver can turn into a stressful experience in Thailand.

You may not find a taxi

Although I personally don’t often use ride-hailing apps in Phuket, I have experienced this issue in Bangkok.
During peak hours, especially in the evening when traffic is heavy, it can be extremely difficult to find a taxi (based on my experience in Bangkok).

Fares fluctuate

As mentioned earlier, ride-hailing app fares are dynamic and depend on factors like the time of day, season, and traffic conditions.
While it can sometimes be cheap, it is also possible that you will end up paying more than MALEE’S TAXI after all the hassle.

Drivers may get lost upon arrival

This has already been explained earlier, so we will omit the details here.
